Quick identity check
Confirm the control-panel product name shows LaserJet Pro M404dn (duplex + network). Drivers: use HP’s official package for M404 from support.hp.com.
Offline on the network
- Print the configuration page from the Reports menu and note the IPv4 address.
- On Windows, open Printer properties → Ports and ensure the TCP/IP port matches that address.
- If DHCP handed out a new IP, reserve the lease on your router or set a static IP on the printer outside the DHCP pool.
- Disable unused WSD queues that point nowhere.
Paper jams & pickup
The M404dn is sensitive to overfilled trays and damp A4. Clear the rear output path if duplex jobs jam. Wipe pickup rollers if multi-feeds start.
Toner alerts
HP Ultra-high yield cartridges are model-specific — mixing M404 with other LaserJet supplies triggers supply errors. Reseat firmly until the cartridge clicks.
Print quality
Vertical streaks: inspect the toner sealing tape removal and drum area per HP’s guide. Faded pages after long storage: gently rock the cartridge to redistribute toner.
